Community Reach Out for Pharmacovigilance and Materovigilance in 2024 and 2025 by AMC, Department of Pharmacology, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba, HP.

From 4th-6thSeptember 2025, AMC, Department of Pharmacology sensitized 100 asha workers on Pharmacovigilance and Materovigilance program of India in their regular monthly meeting conducted every month. The Asha workers of Pukri Block were motivated to report ADRs(adverse drug reactions) related to drugs and devices(Figure 1).  Follow up reminders were given every 2months to report ADRs to the Department of Pharmacology, at Government Medical College, Chamba through whatsapp. Eventually, On 19th Sept 2025, the AMC,Department of Pharmacology, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Govt. Medical College, Chamba, HP, India reached out to the local public who were invited in the PHC’s of Chaned and Masroond area of Chamba. People who participated in the awareness program were from local community includingpeople from thelocal Gram Panchayat, Surya Uday Foundation members(an ngo, active in local de-addiction program), Yoga Instructor from the Ayurveda Hospital, housewives, elderly, youngsters, Asha Workers, Community Health Officers and Interns participated in the awareness program. Medical Officers : Dr AjaySharma from Masroond, PHC and Dr Ajay from Chaned PHC helped in organising and inviting the local public for the MVPI and Pvpi awareness Program.

Overall around 70 people attended the awareness program which was conducted in hybrid mode involving Mvpi Team from IPC, Ghaziabad: Mr Somesh Shukla and Ramandeep and Faculty from the Department of Pharmacology: Dr Aditi Chaturvedi, Dr Harpreet Singh, Dr Munish Kumar and Dr Maninder Rana and MVPI Team. Anganwadi workers were also involved and motivated to invite local public to see the role plays organised on ADR reporting and its need by nursing students of a private nursing college-Shakuntala Nursing College in Chamba, HPSeptember 2025. The Figure-2 shares the details entered in the ADR Monitoring Register and Figures 3-5 shares the photos of sensitization done in Masroond and Chaned PHC’s of Chamba, Hp.

The overall agenda of such awareness drives:

1.    Spread awareness on MVPI and Pvpi program

2.    Share Toll free numbers of Mvpi and Pvpi, IPC, Ghaziabad and numbers of faculty from the Department of Pharmacology, Pt JLNGMCH, Chamba

3.    1.    Maintain a register at the PHC for adr reporting with the following details on the register

 However, these are scattered efforts by the Department of Pharmacology at GMC, Chamba. We eventually plan to conduct follow up visits to these centres soon and involve medical undergraduate students in follow up calling to these centres and build up the ADR reporting culture in these centres. Further more PHC’s in the near by vicinity shall be identified to develop the PVPI and MVPI program in Chamba. We aim that the public of Chamba should be motivated to report ADRs to the Department of Pharmacology, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba, HP.
