“Strong Nutrition for Strong Golden Years”

As we grow older, the body’s nutritional needs change. Proper nutrition in old age is essential to maintain strength, immunity, mental alertness, and independence. Many health problems in the elderly can be prevented or delayed by simple dietary care.

Why Nutrition Matters in Old Age

With aging, appetite may reduce, digestion slows, and absorption of nutrients decreases. Poor nutrition can lead to weakness, frequent infections, bone fractures, memory problems, and poor wound healing.

Core Nutrition Points for Elderly

●       Eat small, frequent meals instead of large heavy meals

●       Include protein daily (pulses, milk, curd, eggs, nuts) to prevent muscle loss

●       Take calcium and vitamin D–rich foods for strong bones

●       Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables for vitamins and fiber

●       Drink enough water even if not feeling thirsty

●       Limit salt, sugar, and fried foods

Important Steps for Prevention

●       Do not skip meals

●       Chew food properly and eat slowly

●       Avoid junk food and excess tea or coffee

●       Stay physically active with light exercise or walking

●       Get regular health and nutrition check-ups

●       Seek medical advice for swallowing problems or poor appetite

Simple Message for All

Healthy aging begins on the plate. Balanced nutrition, along with an active lifestyle, helps the elderly live longer, healthier, and happier lives.
